A five-person PR agency just productized itself — so founders who cannot afford a retainer can still get press

Most small agencies sell hours. EARLY PR, a five-person communications firm in Portland and Los Angeles, just started selling something else: the playbook itself.

Marking seven years in business, the Black woman-founded agency has launched two things at once — EARLY PR Video, an in-house video production service, and a DIY PR product suite aimed at founders who need publicity but cannot put an agency on retainer. The suite is priced like a product, not a proposal: a Pitch Polish & Media List Bundle at $599, a Founder Spotlight Mini Campaign at $2,500, a PR + Content Coaching Cohort at $500 a month, and hourly consulting.

The move is worth watching because it inverts the usual small-agency growth story. Instead of hiring up to take on bigger retainers, EARLY PR is packaging what its team already knows — how to pitch, who to pitch, and how to keep a story moving — into fixed-price offers a founder can buy without a procurement process. The video arm follows the same logic: PR strategists stay on the project from concept to final edit, so the film matches the story driving the coverage, rather than handing the shoot off to an outside crew.

The firm has spent seven years working largely with mission-driven clients and public institutions, including communications around more than $231 million in community investment. Founder Nicole Early puts the new launches in those terms: “I started EARLY PR seven years ago to amplify voices of change… Video and the DIY PR suite come from that same mission.”

For independent teams, the lesson is less about PR than about packaging. A small firm’s scarcest asset is senior attention, and the way to sell more of it without hiring more of it is to turn the repeatable parts into products. EARLY PR just showed one version of how that looks.
